WESLEY Andrew of the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) Rapid Response Unit confirmed today (Wednesday September 19) that no sign has yet been found of the German tourist who was reported missing on September 15.
Niels Frederik Szenbek, 26, was last seen on Saturday afternoon after having booking in at Tsitsikamma Sunrise Caravan Park off the R102 on Friday night. His passport, cellphone and some of his luggage were found at his place of accommodation.
Andrew spoke to CXPRESS on Tuesday morning before heading to the Salt River bridge for a meeting with SAPS members and Western Cape Tourism Safety and Support officer Ilze Jacobs, who has been in contact with the German consulate and the missing tourist’s family.
Andrew said Szenbek had a psychiatric condition and had apparently disappeared on previous occasions, but had always returned within 24 hours.
Tuesday’s search in the Salt River area yielded no sign of the missing man, and by Wednesday Andrew said they were now focussing on the area where Szenbek was last seen, in the vicinity of Nature’s Valley restaurant.
“We have made contact with many accommodation owners and community members and are now urging anyone who may have seen Niels to call myself or the investigating officer directly,” he said.
