SOME members of the Bitou Fire Department crew have been training for months for the annual Toughest Firefighter Alive competition, which they take on in their spare time. Seven members have made final cut to complete for what is regarded as the Olympics for firefighters in Cape Town Next weekend.
These guys and ladies have unfortunately been left in the lurch when promised sponsorship was cancelled on short notice and are now on their own steam, i.e. they need to pay their own transport, accommodation, food, etc. for the event next weekend.
“They really earn feathers so this is a major problem, resulting in their presence in the Cape and being able to complete now hanging in the balance,” says Donald Ravenscroft of CrossFit, Plett, where the contenders are going through the normal, hard-core exercise routine - with one big difference: they jump and run and lift heavy stuff in full fire-fighting kit!
Now there’s just one week to go till our Bitou Fire team will compete at SA’s Toughest Firefighter Alive competition in Cape Town.
“They have been dedicated and committed to training hard the last three months. This week and next they are wearing their full gear as final prep and conditions for next weekend competition,” says Donald.
“If you haven’t yet, please help sponsor our guys and girls to help cover costs of the weekends travel and competing!”
