ON Monday June 12, Wave Broadcasting released a statement to inform CX Country residents of its policies and capacities during the recent fires.
“Local radio stations Knysna 97.0FM and MC90.3FM in Plettenberg Bay have been keeping listeners updated on the fires in the Garden Route.
“Live coverage from the fires was at times extremely difficult as the studios were in the heart of the raging infernos, affected by widespread power failures, fire damage to infrastructure and the equipment of its service providers and radio station staff personally affected by the tragedy.”
The statement continued that both stations kept its listeners updated as long as essential infrastructure allowed, and on the stations’ social media platforms.
“We are a licenced and accredited broadcast medium and wish to make sure that accurate coverage supplied by the relevant authorities is broadcast,” said Gordon Hoffmann, managing director of Wave Broadcasting.
“We are aware of fake news and its implications for the public. We invite all the relevant relief organisations and authorities to send us accurate information for broadcast on our stations,” he concluded.
Knysna 97.0FM and MC90.3FM in Plett will continue to update listeners on the cleanup operations and all other relevant announcements pertaining to the fires.
