ABOUT 70 bikers attended an 11am memorial service on the lawn of Beacon Island Hotel, for fallen soldiers and police officers that died in action, as part of Remembrance Day activities on November 8.
They then embarked on a mass ride through Plett, ending at Sportsman's Pub & Grub at Formosa Bay Resort, where more bikers joined in and were welcomed by pub owners Marlie, Barkie, Tim and Glen.
Poppie, Lizzie, Karel and Bryan ensured all present enjoyed cold refreshments and tasty, well-priced meals before the draw for a Jonway scooter sponsored by Plett Bike, which formed part of a fundraising drive for NSRI Station 14.
Plett NSRI station commander Ray Farnham won the third prize of R200, and Pat of Forgotten Soldiers the R500 second prize - but both gracious gents donated back the prizes for a redraw.
Ray's luck just wouldn't run out and he also won the grand prize, but immediately declared that the scooter would be used by NSRI members for beach control, rather than privately. Finally, a cash amount to buy medical equipment for rescue vehicles was also donated to Plett NSRI.
Thanks to the participating public, bikers, sponsors, Sportsman's Pub & Grub - who pledged to treat the hard-working NSRI guys to a braai - and BI Hotel, a most memorable day was had by all.
