Power theft annoys
What is Bitou Municipality doing about the large-scale and very visible theft of power in our townships? It’s ratepayers like me and you who have to fit the bill – more so now that Eskom is charging such exorbitant rates. - Concerned Resident, Plettenberg Bay

Noise pollution annoys
As an annual tourist to Plett I am writing in connection with the booming music and liberal use of megaphones on Central Beach during the peak holiday season in December. Tourists to Plett over this period mainly come from the large cities for a restful, quiet beach holiday. Loud noise is what we get at home. The Beacon Isle, the rented houses around the beach and sunbathers on Central Beach itself are all subjected to this constant noise pollution, without having been asked if they would prefer loud booming and voice announcements day in and day out for the duration of their holiday, or if the silence of a beachside resort would be preferable. I have no doubt their answers would be the same as ours… Such disrespect for your guests is, well, disrespectful. Enquiries have led me to believe that this so-called ‘entertainment’ is for the benefit of the ‘young people’. Which young people would these be - the ones who have access to far bett...

Knysna’s animals thank Simola
Being left speechless is an affliction I am not familiar with, but I experienced it in a severe degree on Saturday night (August 28) at the ‘Good KAWS Dinner’ in aid of Knysna Animal Welfare, hosted by Simola Hotel Country Club & Spa. Being presented with a cheque for more than R73 000 (yes, seventy-three-thousand-rand) in aid of the Knysna Animal Welfare Society certainly silenced me. Once again this year the good folk from Simola showed their commitment to the Knysna community - and more particularly, the four-legged community of Knysna - by hosting the annual fun dog show and the Good KAWS Dinner, Dance & Auction, resulting in the above donation. How to thank all the people involved is a different story… A letter in a newspaper can’t do justice, or sufficiently convey our gratitude, but I will try. To Natasha van As and René Pieterse – your enthusiasm, professionalism and humility is admirable, we can never thank...

Thank you, Marine Way Animal Hospital!
After a few visits to Plett’s Marine Way Animal Hospital last month, I thought it very necessary to mention the wonderful job done by Drs Laura Snyman and Bert van Reenen, and their friendly staff. I decided to have my golden retriever, Bella, spayed for health reasons, as I do not intend to breed with her. With spaying being an operation and me being a very nervous ‘dog mother’, I felt completely reassured after they had provided lots of information on the procedure. So their kind, caring and professional service made the experience much easier for me. Also worth mentioning is the great work done by the Marine Way team to help Bitou’s many less fortunate animals. I am relieved to have found this amazing place to care for my animals - it is no longer a daunting prospect that I dread, but rather a pleasurable experience for me and my four-legged children to look forward to. Keep up the great work! Sandi Coetsee, Plettenberg B...

Credit where it’s due
I purchased a pair of gumboots from Agri Knysna last month. Very happy with my new boots I went fishing in the lagoon, only to be rather disappointed when the one boot leaked - standing ankle-deep in the water, my foot was soaked. I returned the boots to Agri Knysna where I dealt with Sonja, who took the boots back. No fuss, no worries, she would call me back. A bit of resistance was shown by the rep that supplied the boots, who doubted my account of the leak. After several emails to America, where the boots were manufactured, things looked bleak on the replacement front. Sonja assured me that she had ordered me a new pair of boots that was not only better but more expensive than the leaky ones. A week later I received a call from the very friendly Agri employee: I could come and collect my new gummies. Service like this is hard to find and gives one faith that there are still people who take their jobs seriously, and who know that the customer is important. I...
